1: Sam Houston State Univ. Signage

How Saifee Signs helped a general contractor complete SHSU exterior building and interior signage on-time and on-budget in Huntsville, TX

Background

Saifee Signs was contacted by Pepper Lawson Construction, Houston to bid on a large acrylic logo and a lifesize silhoutte of Sam Houston for the interior lobby of this SHSU Residence. The project manager was looking for a sign company that can produce the entire logo and Sam Houston's silhouette in one piece without any seams.

At the same time, the project manager was not happy with the sign vendors he had worked in the past on other projects. He was looking for a dependable sign company that could deliver the project on-time and would'nt hold him hostage once the project was awarded.

Solution

We understood the project manager's concern and worked with Pepper Lawson Construction and Kirksey to meet the project's timeline. Many details were missing in the initial drawings like the exact sign types, installation heights, materials, thicknesses, finishes, quantities etc. that we identified and resolved with the clients to make sure that the project was not on hold due to missing information. In the end, we also worked some extra hours and some late shifts to make sure the project was completed in time. The endresult was a beautiful sign product as you can see in the pictures.

2: Gulf Pacific Signage

How Saifee Signs helped Gulf Pacific advertise its new brand on Hwy 290 frontage through sleek, border-less aluminum pan signs on its large warehouse exteriors

Background

Gulf Pacific is one of our longstanding clients in the industrial sector. Over the years we have installed several exterior and interior signs for them and the quality of our work and customer service has brought them back to us every time they have a new signs project. Soon after we had installed three custom-designed signs on their rice mill with a highly visible highway (US 290) frontage Gulf Pacific called us with a new request.

Project Goals

To further promote its business Gulf Pacific wanted to implement a new, very large sign in addition to the existing three signs (Harris County allows a maximum of five signs per premise). Gulf Pacific wanted the sign to be:

  • consistent with the brand (i.e., harmonious with the existing signs in terms of materials, color, design)
  • clean, crisp, and borderless
  • high-quality, durable, and cost-effective

Saifee Signs Approach

Based on the project goals, Saifee Signs presented Gulf Pacific with several options. After consultations we agreed on 30' by 20' sized pan sign with:

  • attention to detail to ensure we did not use visible fasteners that would spoil the clean look
  • thick (not standard grade) aluminum as the material of choice for its strength and ability to stand up to extreme weather

Next we were faced with installation that presented its own challenges. The sign was to be affixed on the side of the mill that has a railway line to carry the rice product. This side of the mill also happens to be on the windward side. Then, it being summer, we were faced with unpredictable weather with frequent rainstorms.

Owing to these conditions, we worked closely with the client to schedule the installation in sections so as to

  • not disrupt the mill’s rail cart operations
  • minimize wind pressure during installation
  • avoid days with a high chance of weather development
  • custom color matching to match the brand and existing signage

3: Tradequip Signage

How Saifee Signs branded Tradequip's building interiors, exteriors and fleet vehicles with custom designed signage

Background

Tradequip is an oilfield equipment company, one of our clients in the oil and gas sector in Houston. Rapid expansion in the sector has led to many clients opening new offices and moving more employees to the Houston area.

Project goals

Saifee Signs was hired to create a sign near the reception desk for a brand new Tradequip office building. The sign had to:

  • Be awe-inspiring – convey the sense of a grand building and a large, global company
  • Match the upscale interior décor
  • Be unique in its design

Saifee Signs approach

We worked with the architect to discuss options, implementation and materials. The final design and materials included:

  • a world map cut-out accurately representing every country in the world
  • individually cut pieces for every country, over 200 pieces in all
  • gold anodized aluminum mounted on a black granite wall to match the black and gold building interior
  • pieces adhered directly to the granite without drilling or damaging the stone
  • Challenges we overcame on this installation were
  • ensuring that all the gold pieces were the exact same color, as not all of them are done at the same time
  • Our large anodizing tank means we can get even color over large pieces
  • Assembling a couple of hundred pieces is like doing a giant jigsaw puzzle on the wall with no do-overs. Every single piece, including small islands are all in exactly the right spot
  • The outline of every country is accurate and waterjet cut to precision

We tested different adhesive systems in advance of the actual installation. This way we were sure that it would work. The pieces were solid aluminum, ½ inch thick and therefore heavy. They also did not have a lot of square footage to which to apply adhesive. Consequently, it was vital that the adhesive was strong enough. Testing various systems gave us confidence in our final choice.

4: Team Industrial Signage

How Saifee Signs helped Team Industrial brand their new buildings in Alvin and Sugar Land, TX with exterior and interior office signs

Background

Team Industrial provides industrial services to heavy industrial companies - approached us badly burned by a previous sign company. They were having several problems with the sign they purchased from them – the sign was coming off the wall, the internal lights had failed, the design did not allow for any repairs. There was no warranty on any of the materials, and the company did not provide service.

Project goals

Team Industrial was ready for a new sign, manufactured to the highest standards, a true reflection of their own commitment to excellence The new sign needed to be

  • High-quality with custom fabrication and a clean finish to reflect well on the company
  • covered by a warranty on the materials
  • allow for internal light bulb changes

Saifee Signs approach

With a custom fabrication shop at our disposal, we are able to acquire raw materials of better quality and finish them ourselves. This saves us from having to use low quality prefinished materials. High quality materials pay for themselves in longevity – your sign is guaranteed to last a longer time without peeling paint or vinyl, or broken lights.

For this sign, we recommended:

  • A whole new design that allowed for lights to be replaced easily. The old sign was riveted, and therefore needed to be broken apart to replace dead bulbs.
  • A thicker grade of aluminum, to prevent dents and bends, which we brush-finished ourselves.
  • Push-through acrylic letters lit from the back

To ensure that TI was getting exactly what they wanted, we showed them lots of actual samples. They could compare finishes and price and make educated decisions about the tradeoffs. We offer more finishes and carry more samples than many of our competitors.

We were also able to give the client a five year warranty on the LED lights.

5: Powell Electric Recognition Wall

How Saifee Signs helped Powell Electric create a Quarter Century Club through an Employee Recognition / Awards Wall

Background

Powell Electric wanted to recognize the contributions of their employees with a unique inspirational and affirmative feature – a commemorative wall with the names and pictures of close to 250 past and present employees. Every person on the wall was valued by the company, and they wanted to acknowledge that publicly.

Project goals

There were some practical requirements for the wall to work as envisioned.

  • The plaques had to be removable, but at the same time protected, so they were not removed without permission
  • The system had to be flexible enough to add new employees, or rearrange the order
  • It had to be inexpensive to update; they did not want to recreate the wall every time changes were made
  • Even with over two hundred names, they all had to be easily readable

Saifee Signs approach

Our solution for the commemorative wall was a system of magnetized plaques in frames. The plaques can be easily removed and rearranged in the frame system, without any assistance.

To ensure that they are protected, we covered the plaques with a glass front. However, it was designed so it could open to allow access to the plaques when changes have to be made.

Implementation and installation presented their own challenges. At every step we had the client sign off so that we were sure they were satisfied. For instance

  • There were over 200 names, dates and pictures to keep organized, and spell correctly on every plaque
  • For ex-employees, we pulled their pictures off old security cards and enhanced them digitally. Then we created samples on zinc plates for the clients to approve, not just pdfs, so they were sure of the final product before it was created.
  • After they approved online proofs, we created physical samples so the clients could review every color as it would come out **
  • We ran quality checks for every plaque, to ensure that every employee’s picture came out perfect
  • We used specialty measurement tools to ensure that all the plaques were lined up without appearing crooked

** We always show physical samples for colors, so clients can match colors accurately to their office décor

6: Dresser Rand Signage

How Saifee Signs implemented branding for Dresser Rand's various operating divisions with interior lobby signs

Background

Dresser Rand has facilities not only in Houston, but around the country. Extremely satisfied with the quality and service they received from Saifee Signs on a variety of Houston projects, they decided to stick to our company for signs for a NY facility.

Project goals

Weight was a priority on these signs for several reasons.

  • The signs needed to be installed at a height, over 20 feet above the ground. For this reason, they wanted them to be lightweight, so they were easy to lift
  • The signs were also going to be shipped across the country. Lightweight signs would be less expensive to ship

Saifee Signs approach

To keep the signs lightweight, we used Coroplast. Coroplast is a corrugated plastic that is strong, yet very light.

We offered them the flexibility to install the signs themselves. Since they already had the equipment inhouse, this was actually an easier solution for DR. It meant they did not have to coordinate installation dates, clearances, etc.

The rest of the process was completely electronic, and easy to coordinate from out-of-state. We have always been early adopters of the latest technology, and were using an online proofing system years before the rest of the industry was on board. Using EchoSign software, DR was able to sign off on all drawings and proofs before we went into manufacturing.

7: Horiba Instruments Signage

How Saifee Signs helped Horiba Instruments fix a failing sign in Alvin, TX and implement new fleet graphics

Background

Horiba Instruments had another sign company retrofit an old lighted pole sign in their complex. The work was of a poor quality and the face of the sign would flap dangerously in the wind. At night, the light colors were not the ones they wanted. They contacted Saifee Signs to fix the damage.

Project goals

  • Create a durable, weather-resistant, long-lasting, outdoor lighted pole sign
  • The colors were to accurately match the company colors, including at night
  • The project was to be completed in a very tight timeframe, before an upcoming company event

Saifee Signs approach

After our initial survey, it was easy for us to see that the existing pole sign was in poor condition. The sign had several dents, and many layers of paint. It was simpler and cheaper to start over.

  • We used a heavier gauge of aluminum than the previous company, to give the sign sturdiness and longevity
  • A new custom manufactured sign box had the clean look the client wanted

Horiba was so pleased with our work on the pole sign, we were immediately commissioned to make another sign for the building face.

The new sign reflected the modern, clean look of the revamped pole sign. We created a pan sign with dimensional acrylic letters, in thick acrylic.

8: The Ensemble Theatre Signage

How Saifee Signs helped revitalize a Houston institution in Midtown Houston

Background

The Ensemble Theatre is one of Houston's finest historical cultural institutions. In early 2016, the organization realized that despite the growth in communities all around midtown, their membership was not benefiting from that growth. At that point the Ensemble's board and staff realized they had to advertise their services to attract bigger audiences.

Research showed that updating the signage was the most cost effective solution for the theater so visitors to the Midtown Houston Cultural District were able to locate the building with ease in the midst of all the surrounding development in the district. In response, The Ensemble Theatre applied for grants and received $100K from various art foundations including the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Arts Respond Cultural District Project.

Solution

Once the funds were in, The Ensemble Theatre started looking for a skilled creative partner that could both design and build the signage for them. After looking at design proposals from architectural design and sign companies in Houston, they chose Saifee Signs & Graphics as their partner based on the creativity of their design solution and close coordination with the City of Houston and the members of the Theatre Board to deliver their dream project.

The Saifee Signs team assembled a plan to upgrade the dated signage, along with adding new lighted signs for improved night identification and changing the surface paint color for added contrast to the signs. The signs were manufactured & installed on time and on budget.

After this revitalization project was completed in August 2016, The Ensemble Theatre has seen a marked enthusiasm amongst their regular theatre patrons as well as a growing interest from neighboring cultural institutions and new communities around them. The Theatre is now well identified from all sides and can't be missed by anyone passing by at day or night.
