Four-Day Turnaround on Exterior Stadium Signage for Aldine ISD's W. W. Thorne Stadium

CLIENT

Aldine Independent School District serves 52,000 students across 70 campuses in north Harris County.

W. W. Thorne Stadium is the District's primary athletics venue, hosting football and soccer for campuses across the District as well as graduations and other district-wide events throughout the school year. As a shared facility carrying the Aldine ISD identity in front of the largest audiences the District draws, its signage represents the District as a whole rather than any single campus.

The general contractor on the project, Durotech, manages construction and renovation programs for public school districts across the Houston region and held responsibility for delivering the stadium ready for opening day.

OPPORTUNITY

With one week remaining before the stadium's opening game, the District's original sign fabricator had delivered work that did not meet the standard the project required.

Durotech brought us in to correct the errors and complete the package. The scope was ten exterior signs, fabricated and installed in time for kickoff. The deadline was fixed and immovable, with a full stadium and a district-wide audience on the other side of it.

ACTION

We surveyed the site before committing to the schedule, then compressed the production timeline to protect the client's deadline.

The on-site survey at W. W. Thorne Stadium confirmed installation conditions and substrate access, which let us commit to the timeline with confidence rather than optimism. We specified 6mm ACM with digital prints, a system selected for production speed and outdoor durability under the constraint we were working within.

The client then asked to move installation a full day earlier than the opening game, to build in a buffer for adjustments. That left four business days to fabricate and install, against a forecast calling for rain most of the week. We scheduled installation windows around the weather rather than around the calendar.

Production ran on overtime. Signs were delivered in two batches, morning and afternoon, so installation could begin before fabrication finished. Our installation team worked a single fifteen-hour day, from 9 a.m. until nearly midnight, to complete the package in one pass.

RESULTS

Delivered a day early, with the buffer the client asked for.

Aldine ISD and Durotech received all ten signs installed and complete a full day ahead of the opening game, despite a four-business-day window and rain across most of it.

The early completion gave the District time to walk the site and raise any final concerns before the gates opened, which was the reason they had asked for the earlier date in the first place. The stadium opened on schedule with the signage program complete. For a general contractor who had already been through one fabricator on this scope, the outcome established Saifee Signs as the partner to call when a schedule has no room left in it.
